A1 Assessor Award
The GTC has allocated some funding to support this training programme.
It should also be noted that some Centres arrange to train assessors and you can find out whether they offer this training by contacting your chosen Centre direct.
Course description
As National/Scottish Vocational Qualifications (N/SVQ’s) are becoming more prevalent in our workplaces, many organizations are now finding it beneficial (convenient and economical), as well as motivating for their staff, to have a qualified N/SVQ assessor on site. The A1 award enables existing staff to assess to the National Occupational Standards in the workplace. It is a programme of training in skills, techniques and principles of assessing competency using a variety of assessment methods.
Entry requirements
The trainee must have an up-to-date knowledge of the greenkeeping industry and be in a position of authority (Course Manager/Head Greenkeeper or Deputy).
N.B. To gain this award, Assessor trainees need to assess at least 2 N/SVQ learners registered at a centre, against a minimum of 3 N/SVQ Level 2 Units.
To take advantage of the GTC assessor training programme we will require a copy of a CV and letter of support from the Employer will also be required along with authorization from the Centre/College Internal Verifier that they will support you whilst undergoing the A1 training.
What does it involve?
The delivery of the A1 Assessor qualification involves a 2-day course, which will be held in your region. Following the training days you will return to your workplace and develop the skills and knowledge learned, before assessing at least 2 different members of staff (candidates) carrying out work on the golf course against the National Standards. You will also receive the full support by the Training Provider nominated by the GTC to carry out the assessor training programme.
How much will it cost?
The cost of the training will be met by the GTC but all travel costs must be met by the employer or the applicant and the GTC expects the employer to allow the applicant adequate time to attend the training days and the assessment work on the golf course.
