Course Overview

This module will provide underpinning knowledge on Maintaining the Health of Sports Turf. It is mapped to the Work Based Diploma/SVQ Level 2 unit and would also be of benefit to National Certificate learners. It has been developed in partnership with The Greenkeepers Training Committee and Virtual College.

This module looks at what problems can affect turf grass. Many organisms and disorders can have a negative impact upon the quality of turf sward. These must be quickly and accurately identified so that any damage can be minimsed via an efficient and appropriate management strategy. This module will give learners the knowledge with which to do this.

  • Know what effects these problems have on sports turf

  • Know the main types of pesticide and their modes of action

The full N/SVQ qualification shows that the holder can perform a range of greenkeeping tasks, some of which are complex and not routine, and that the holder is capable of working alone or as part of a team.
