All-Party Parliamentary Group for Golf hails The R&A’s £7m COVID-19 Support Fund
The UK Parliament’s All-Party Parliamentary Group for Golf has welcomed The R&A’s decision to create a £7 million funding package to help golf deal with the impact of COVID-19.
The fund is largely aimed at national associations and other affiliated bodies in Great Britain and Ireland and will support those clubs and facilities, although some of the money may be used for other activities key to the future health of the sport.
On hearing the announcement of fund, All-Party Parliamentary Golf Group Chairman, MP for North Warwickshire Craig Tracey, said “The R&A already significantly supports the growth of golf in the UK through its reinvestment of the proceeds of The Open. The Parliamentary Group has been working closely with senior executives from The R&A and other bodies and seen first-hand how tirelessly all have been working to ensure that not only golf is back safely for players at all levels, but everybody involved in the wider golf industry.
“That comes at a cost, and The R&A’s COVID-19 Support Fund will provide significant relief for very many people, as well as much needed economic stimulus over and above that of the Government’s support, to ensure golf continues in these unprecedented times.”
