Coleg Cambria Greenkeeper Gains Prestigious Position in New Zealand
Simon Ashford recently completed his Modern Apprenticeship in Horticulture at Coleg Cambria Northop and through his dedication has gained himself a prestigious job in New Zealand.
Simon, who made it through to the regional interviews for Student Greenkeeper of the Year 2013, successfully completed his apprenticeship to a very high standard. He is now going to take up his new position at Remeura Golf Club near Auckland as a seasonal Greenkeeper but with the option to continue working for the company permanently. Simon completed his apprenticeship through Coleg Cambria at Darland Golf Club but will now relocate to the 18 hole, Par 72 premier golf course in New Zealand.
Simon said: "I enrolled on my course at Coleg Cambria after it was highly recommended to me by the Head Greenkeepers at Royal St David's and Old Padeswood Golf Clubs; I have not been disappointed in my choice.
"My assessor, Jenny Pitts, explained the framework of the course in detail, telling me what was required and how to use the online Learning Assistant, which is brilliant for submitting work and tracking your progress. I was able to complete the Level 3 course in such a short timeframe, purely because Jenny had set targets that were both challenging but realistic.
Coleg Cambria Work-based Land-based Assessor, Jenny Pitts said: "Simon did so well on his Level 3 programme after making the decision to begin a career in Greenkeeping. His hard work has now paid off and this is an amazing opportunity for Simon to work at such a prestigious golf course in New Zealand."
