National Occupational Standards (NOS) Sustainable Unit consultation

The GTC in association with The R&A have hosted a series of workshops around Britain aimed at ensuring turf staff at Approved Centres are fully informed of the ongoing work to promote the Sustainable Golf Course Programme to students and the wider golfing community.

One key issue is how best the various aspects of the programme are incorporated into the various qualifications and courses for greenkeeping.

As the GTC is currently involved in the review of the Level 4 National Occupational Standards (NOS) we are looking at a whole range of Units to cover the various skills and knowledge required within the NOS.

To view a Unit developed by the Construction Skills SSC click here and I welcome your comments on its suitability or not for adoption by the Lantra SSC - GTC for use within greenkeeping and possibly other Land base qualifications.

For those readers familiar with the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) the layout of the Unit will resemble other Units however for non-QCF users any Unit we develop will have to follow the template as displayed.

Whilst there are many generic headings in the Unit, the training courses offered by the Centres would make the learning and assessment specific for greenkeepers, Course Managers.

The GTC will continue to develop learning materials to assist Centres and learners deliver and learn all about the various aspects of Sustainability.

Your feedback will be appreciated to: david@the-gtc.co.uk

The period of consultation on this Unit is 31 July 2010
