On Course Foundation addresses Parliamentary Golf Group
On Wednesday night (6 February 2019) representatives of the On Course Foundation addressed a meeting of the All-Party Parliamentary Golf Group in Westminster.
At the meeting, attended by MPs, Peers and honorary and associate members of the Group, On Course Foundation founder and President John Simpson gave a presentation on the foundation’s work to support the recovery of wounded, injured and sick service personnel through golf and employment in the golf industry. A beneficiary of the On Course Foundation’s programmes, Vikrant Gurung, also discussed his experiences.
The On Course Foundation seeks to engage injured service personnel and veterans through introductory golf events before providing an opportunity to fully explore how golf can help them on the road to recovery and provide them with future employment. Members receive comprehensive golf tuition from professionals, as well as career advice and guidance from industry professionals in areas such as golf course management, greenkeeping and marketing.
Chairing the meeting was Member of Parliament for North East Fife and All-Party Parliamentary Golf Group Co-Chair, Stephen Gethins MP. He said “it was a pleasure to welcome John and Vikrant to Parliament, and hear more about the work that the On Course Foundation does to reignite the futures of wounded service personnel and veterans through golf.
“The On Course Foundation plays a vital role in aiding the recovery and transition of injured military personnel to civilian life, and the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Golf looks forward to supporting John and his team as they seek to expand their support further.”
On Course Foundation founder and President, John Simpson, said “since the On Course Foundation was established in 2010, we are proud to have supported over 800 wounded service personnel and veterans, with nearly 200 now working in the golf industry.
“Following life changing injuries, we provide opportunities for our members to engage and participate in golf, which improves their wellbeing and supports their rehabilitation, whilst we look to source meaningful employment opportunities within golf and its related industries.
“It was an honour to address the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Golf, and we hope to continue to work closely with the Group and stakeholders from across the sport in the coming years.”
